Her contribution to the tournament helped her team U.S. team win consecutive Women's World Cup championships in 2015 and 2019. In 2018, she was named cocaptain. Rapinoe scored two goals in the United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze-medal game in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been prevented from attending to the Olympics until 2021 due the COVID-19 Pandemic.
